Don't mark them with an F...

Every felon should not be penalized, ostracized and marked with and F...
Many of our men are charged with Felonies due to child support issues, not because they are no good fathers and dead beat dads, but simply because life happens...
Take for instance a Brother who is the sole support of his family... his mother dies; his father suffers a stroke, and his company down sizes offering only part-time work... These events occur within a ten day window of time... In the quake of these traumas this Brother puts off child-support to bury his mother, afford medication for his father, down sizes his livelihood to fit the circumstances of his employment... he never once cease to care for his child, although he does not pay the money to the courts for child support. Four months pass, he's attempting to catch up just as he's being picked up and charged... with a Felon.  He was behind.... Four-hundred ($400.00) dollars behind, and he is thrown in jail, charged with a Felony, held for 90 days, losses his job, can't be hired by many companies due to his felony status. Don't mark them with failure with felonious felonies you are playing with the future of their offspring...

No not every Felon should be penalized, ostracized and marked with an F.

Sista Thought

Yes, we really do need a different approach... our children are failing and dropping out... at an astronomical rate.   Our cookie cutter, one size fits all education is not working.  We need to revamp the educational system... test our children for their proficiency, and educate accordingly… more apprenticeships, and trade-school programs… bring back junior achievement for financial learning… teach financing and budgeting along with our abc’s and 123’s…   in my opinion year round school also teaches disciple and dedication… other than accounting, and education, what job gives you three months off, and expects you to work at your fullest potential, without losing a step?

Homelessness is a mockery on human compassion.

As I sit in the comfort of my apartment, with my central heat turned to 65, and my nostrils inhaling the scent of sweet potatoes… I am reminded many of my sisters & brothers are but a stones’ throw from homeless...
After reading an article in the Huffington Post my mind raced to the many homeless here in St. Louis... and the trials they endure season after season... I recall one year, after helping set up the city-rec, for the over flow of homeless men and women that would bed there for the night. I heading home already dismayed about the folks that had to be turned away, due to capacity.
On my way home I spotted a small woman layered in coats… She was covering the top of a sliding board with plastic… that same plastic we use to cover windows in the winter… She was covering a small encasement over the sliding-board… that place where children usually sit and slide.
This woman carefully unfolded the clear plastic… then snapped it like a sheet as she draped it over the little hard plastic dome and all four of its exposed openings… After covering the hard red, blue and yellow plastic dome the woman balled into a knot and laid inside… this was her shelter for the night.
I don’t know what happen to that woman… but for these five years… each winter that comes… I am reminded of her as I pass that park… The woman was but 300 feet from the shelter but she lay in the cold winter’s night atop a slide protected only by the coats on her back and a thin layer of insulating plastic… I can’t help but wonder what I could have done differently…
I say all this to say... we need solutions… for this issue of homelessness is a mockery on human compassion.

There Is a Time:

Every family should be sheltered from the fiery darts of protesters, in the hour of their bereavement, for there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Protect the bereaved, protest in the courts, not the funeral site or the grave side of our fallen soldiers... ~Sista

Learning the virtues of patience.....

Louis Maye

And what brought that revelation

Sista SistaSister

Life and it's various experiences, reveals what is most needed. Though we hold some virtues, there is always room for growth, and sincere self examination is all it takes to see ourselves. When I examine me, I see, I must learn the virtues of patience... { Book of Judgment chapter 20: There shall be a day of judgment unto thee, O man. Soon or late, thou shalt take the matter into thine own hand; and thou shalt look into thine own soul to judge thyself. This is unto all men; none can escape it. }

Louis Maye

hmmmm...quite true...must check that book

Carlotta Best

This is so true Let God be the judge!!!

Louis Maye

That seems to be the hardest thing for some religious groups to handle ...they can't comprehend the concept of letting GOD...be the judge...thus we continue making the same mistakes as our predecessors ...some within humanity... in it's finite wisdom and knowledge...choose to think themselves capable of the task . But humanity ...is flawed ..with ... prejudices one against the other ...agendas...based in greed and power ..thus their judgments...are unjust .Remember the witch hunts ...the crusades ...the inquisitions...jihads ...and the like...human ..judgments. Yet they always ascribe them to the will of GOD ..Allah...Jehovah....but it is humanity making these judgments.

Stephanie Wallace

@LOUIS..SO TRUE. Man uses religion as a means of controlling each other. What kills me is how those who suffer the most transgressions are convinced that the suffering somehow equates to piety.

Louis Maye

And that we can attribute to ...miss-education...misinformation...disinformation ...and fabrication....down right lying. If they would but open their eyes ...and realize ...look at the world at large ...see the whole picture. the middle class has become the working poor ...our young adults are being manipulated ...to resort to a negative life style ..... the drug trade ...stripping in clubs etc.as instead of creating real jobs ...the system is taking away jobs .and it is all ...mental manipulation...mind control..
on an unimaginable scale ...and it began with religion as it is a means of controlling ..the masses of humanity...and did not begin with now ..but civilizations before this.

Many of us read to locate, take note of, or memorize, that which has been taught unto us.
Some of us study to gather information of that which is written, and has been taught unto us, with no intention of questioning it's validity. Others of us locate, take note of, memorize, gather information and are able to rightly divide the written and ... spoken word, which has been taught unto us, and there confirming or denying it's validity. Wisdom is seeking beyond what is taught or understood, to affirm truth.

Louis Maye

may i copy and paste that on my page

Sista SistaSister

Yes Louis, You're more than welcome to do so...

Louis Maye

it was just so precise ..i couldn't have said it better

Sista SistaSister

:) Thank U

Stephanie Wallace

Many of us...most of us are taught NOT to question. Especially religion. It is made to seem devilish. Imagine masses and masses of ppl just going along just because.... Lives dedicated and given because.... We are afraid of believing in ourselves and how God moves through us.

Sista SistaSister

So very true @ Stephanie
We are taught in childhood, not to question, our parents, our elders, and those deemed to have religious authority over us.. We are not to lean to our own understandings, and if we find ourselves of another opinion, we are told it is the devil. Therefore withstanding our failure, our unwillingness, our fear to question ... that which is questionable, we adhere to a belief passed down but never scrutinize by those we looked to for guidance. We pledge servitude to a belief we ourselves struggle to comprehend, and in so doing, we vaguely acknowledge the God-ness, the creative force within ourselves… (Greater is he that is within U than he that is in the world./ The world meaning outside of U.)

Health Care (In lieu of recent acts of Violence)

With the passing of the Health Care Bill, and the rage which has ensued across our nation, one would think this was January 1863, the day after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Let US educate ourselves, and rightly divide the truth. Let US settle our disputes by the stroke of our pens, and if our governments choices fail to represent US, Let US raise our voices with our votes.

ALOHA…

Thirty days ago, I did not fully understand Facebook, and it’s phenomena, yet in these last 30 days, I have found classmates, school associates, friends, family members, folks from various places I’ve lived, and various churches I’ve attended. It’s been quite an experience. I logged in one morning, to learn a family member had passed just two hours prior to my log-in.
Today I checked my email, to find a note from another internet radio host. The note was titled “Is Facebook ruining relationships”. I though, “for sure this is a joke”, however, after speaking with my youngest son, I learn these things are reality…
“It’s just Facebook”, I said. My son assured me the allegations are true…
Folks are ending relationships, based on whom one befriends on Facebook.
Once explained, I began to understand why there were those who choose not to accept my invites, and others whom had, but later dropped me.
Wow I thought, folks really take this stuff seriously. I had no clue the reach and magnitude of Facebook… Whoever thought hello would mean good-bye. Perhaps we should all say, ALOHA…

Aloha: used as a greeting or to bid farewell

Homelessness: Whatever You Do Unto The Lest Of These, You Do Unto ME"!

The phone woke me from my good nights sleep,
I rose to open my window shade, as I do each day.
I saw a man eating from the dumpster, and felt compelled to meet him.
I ran about to dress myself, and find something quick to feed him.
As I returned to the window, the gentleman was gone.
These words came to me and now I pass them on…
"Whatever you do unto the least of these, you do unto me."

Mike Smith America, not to be mean but we are the only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, and mentally ill without treatment. Yet, we have a benefit for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations. 99% of people won't have the guts to copy and repost this !! What about OUR country and OUR people?

Obama!!! Cauz' U Asked... "Yes We Can"

Someone asked, "What change has Obama brought"?
My response...
***********************************************************
There is nothing new under the sun,
An old idea on a different day,
A different time, spoken from a different face,
Can bring about different results.
We witnessed record numbers of folks young and old,
Voting for the very first time.
Numbers of folks standing in lines,
Waiting hours sometimes, to execute their right to vote
No fear of Jim Crowpolice brutality… are Ku Klux Klan activity..
People united on one accord, backed Obama’s platform,
Yes We Can, is the slogan, evoking hope to the broken,
Broken by the effects of Bush-onomics, introduced, and left behind,
Economic devastation, war based on faulty information, class’ation without representation, and Homelessness, due to predatory lending. Bush’s ending was as devastating as his beginning.
With Obama at the reigns, and his resounding phrase
We began to dream, the dream of Martin Luther King
Regardless of ethnicity, nationality, class or religious belief,
Dreams do become reality,
No longer the joke, if we work with our hope.
The glass ceiling can be broken,
Yes We Can. For
We are the people, who built this land, with toil and hands
Who form the more perfect union, every hue+man,
Regardless of shade
Establishing Justice, insuring domestic tranquility,
Providing our sons and daughters for the common defense,
Hoping to promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, for our votes, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Yes We Can

Obama !!! The Savior???

Obama!!! The Savior???
***********************************
We are our own self salvation,
Barack Obama is merely the inspiration,

Fueling the engine for a prolonged destination,

Stalled by judicial prejudice, class segregation

Covert discrimination, educational privation.

We are our own self salvation,

Barack Obama is not the savior,

Merely the vote of our conscious,

The President of the people, by the people, for the people
Whether elite or homeless in the street.
We are our own self salvation

Barack Obama is merely the voice,
The sounding board of our democratic choice.
Leading in this 21st century

Braking the chains of history

Rallying the desire for unity

Working to overcome poverty,

Awakening the possibility,

The glass ceiling is broken.

We are our own self salvation

Barack Obama is our legal democratic representation

Payne

Overdue pleas, written as poetic screams, remember me
Remember what you stole from me.
Walking to school,
Grade school
Junior high
High school
Wearing smiling faces with innocent grins
We were friends,
I was there for you
Book reports
Math test
Free lunch
Flag foot ball after school
Me and you were cool
So what gave you the right
To gather a few of your other friends
Tie me to the gate and rap me of my innocence
Overdue pleas, written as poetic screams, remember me
Remember what you stole from me
We were friends.

My Thought for the Day Copyright © 2010

Sometimes we stumble;
Sometimes faith is betrayed;
Sometimes the mistakes we make
are the stones it takes, to build a pathway to the person we will be. Remember we are ever becoming.

Wisdom is the prerequisite of perfecting love,
Truth is the prerequisite of revealed wisdom,
If there is no truth, there is no perfecting love.
Seek truth, wisdom and love will follow.

"When I fall, whether I be friend or foe, stretch forth, help me, dust me off, and send me on my way in love." Yes, Love... The action that surpasses all understanding... The force, that creates forgiveness, in the mist of derision. The virtue, that gives all fallen souls the ability to journey on... and to the sender (the forgiver who's been wronged) the ability to heal, and also grow on.

To be conventional, for some is deifying creativity.
To be absolutely unique, is a freedom we all seek, at various levels. (February 27, 2010)

We view photo's, we read blogs and status', we agree or disagree, we like or dislike, we study, examine and respond, based on our perceptions of what we believe is communicated and revealed, What you see is not always what you get.
There are times we should use our prudent minds, to take another look, there could be more than what meets the eye.

Misery loves company, and hurt people hurt people. If folks fail to take the time needed to heal, they will always repeat the cycle of pain. I have found love means different things to different folks, so we must find our definition of love, and apply it as we await the arrival of that mate, whom shares the same definition of love as ourselves.
