I knew a girl who lived this tale...

I knew a girl who lived this tale... her life was virtually hell... then one day her abuser went to jail... but even from his cell… he cracked his whip and she made bail… day in and day out… bout after bout… this girl lived every hue… blue… purple… black… as she yelled back… I LOVE U… I LOVE U TOO… he firmly said…till one day he hit her… and the next day she was dead… I knew a girl who lived this tale.

Art by Scott Gustafson 2009 ... Scottgustafson.com

If you learned your words (typed, spoken or written) would not return to you void (unfulfilled), would you change the words you use, or the way you speak…? How many of us are now chasing down our negative words with positive affirmations… We must become impeccable with our speech, mindful of the words we use in reference to ourselves and others… Words are powerful… ask a child… are remember the child you once were.

Sista Poetic Quote

Unforgiveness is the venom of forked tongues,
Slithering vipers, rattling on, and on,
Bitter the guile that once seemed sweet,
Now danger lurks due to adulterous speech,
Speak the truth and free the mind
Forgiveness will come in time…

Sista Quotes

We are the collective vision of our thoughts; we determine our value, our essence, and our substance.
Our substance cannot be found outside ourselves; and until we become aware of whom we are, and align ourselves therewith; our potential lies in wait… and so do our mates…

Thank U… We Sometimes Forget…

Thank U for We sometimes forget…
Thank U for care, and compassion
Thank U for tender embraces and healthy conversations
Regardless of our tendency to go on and on
Thank U for making the bread, and sharing the dough
Thank U for kissing the bruises, an speaking the pain gone
Thank U despite the fact we sometimes forget to say,
To every Father, Brother, Lover, Husband, Friend or Son…
Thank U

Sista Prayer

"For Colored Girls" My Two Cents

My Two Cents,
We seem to forget, this is a movie based on a play, written by a woman, who experienced these truths in her life, and the lives of the women around her. It is my opinion; Tyler Perry desired to bring this book to film, in honor of its author Ntozake Shange, and her story. I was eleven when my mother first brought “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf”, home…
The book was the rave in the African American Book Community for which my mother frequented. As a result she purchased the book, only to have me to crack the pages and dive in, before she read the first words.
For weeks I carried the book as if on assignment from GOD, to read and comprehend its pages. I was moved by the stories, the poetic rhymes of each tale, and was consequently inspired to write my first piece of poetry.
Since then I have written (although not yet published) hundreds upon hundreds of rhythmic lines, and words that dance and prance in the minds of the reader.
It is this book that began my odyssey of poetry and I thank Tyler Perry for breathing life, into this creation of art once again. Reading through the multitude of personal post and reviews, I thought, “Hummm let me add my two cents to the pot.
It seems many Brothers are calling “For Colored Girls” another all-out male bashing movie, taken in the same vein as, ‘The Women of Brewster Place’ (written 1982) and ‘Waiting to Exhale’ (written 1992). Brothers seem to feel this movie again dehumanizes, demoralizes, and downright assonates the character of Black men.
As one author wrote “the film made me damn near embarrassed to be a black male”.
For those Brothers, those of you, who are free moral agents of ethics and integrity, who take responsibility for your family, who work diligently to build your community, and who sever the GOD of your creation with the zeal of accountability, I see your grief and understand your agony.
It is true that men of color or depicted as the riffraff deviants of society, sex craved and depraved, running from responsibility, indebted to the law for one crime are another, and that is most unfortunate. Nonetheless, my Brothers, in defense of Tyler Perry (whom I have never meet), I am of the opinion; it was not his intention to undermine, demoralize, nor weaken the already damaged persona of the Black Male Ego.
Had the text originated with Tyler Perry, Brothers, you would have my loyal support. Nevertheless, this is not the case. The film, “For Colored Girls” is a mere depiction of an original work of art, which Tyler Perry challenged himself to remain true to. Therefore I applaud my Brother, and recommend this movie to all who have yet to see it, and as you watch remember, the depictions of life in this film may not be your reality, but it is some bodies’ truth.

Winter is coming... it's cloudy & cool outside

I am already basking in the Oasis of my mind… absorbing the warmth of the suns light, relaxing at the oceans side, watching the seagulls soar through the sky, sipping white wine, as my ink dyes the pages of my journal, and the words spell out, “Wish U were here… I’m having a wonder time.”

Sometimes we stumble;
Sometimes faith is betrayed;
Sometimes the mistakes we make
are the stones it takes, to build a pathway to the person we will be. Remember we are ever becoming.

Wisdom is the prerequisite of perfecting love,
Truth is the prerequisite of revealed wisdom,
If there is no truth, there is no perfecting love.
Seek truth, wisdom and love will follow.

"When I fall, whether I be friend or foe, stretch forth, help me, dust me off, and send me on my way in love." Yes, Love... The action that surpasses all understanding... The force, that creates forgiveness, in the mist of derision. The virtue, that gives all fallen souls the ability to journey on... and to the sender (the forgiver who's been wronged) the ability to heal, and also grow on.

We view photo's, we read blogs and status', we agree or disagree, we like or dislike, we study, examine and respond, based on our perceptions of what we believe is communicated and revealed, What you see is not always what you get.
There are times we should use our prudent minds, to take another look, there could be more than what meets the eye.

Many of us read to locate, take note of, or memorize, that which has been taught unto us. Some of us study to gather information of that which is written, and has been taught unto us, with no intention of questioning its validity.
Others of us locate, take note of, memorize, gather information and are able to rightly divide the written and spoken word, which has been taught unto us, and there confirming or denying its validity. Wisdom is seeking beyond what is taught or understood, to affirm truth.
(March 29, 2010)

We are taught in childhood, not to question, our parents, our elders, and those deemed to have religious authority over us... We are not to lean to our own understandings, and if we find ourselves of another opinion, we are told it is the devil. Therefore withstanding our failure, our unwillingness, our fear to question, that which is questionable, we adhere to a belief passed down but never scrutinize by those we looked to for guidance. We pledge servitude to a belief we ourselves struggle to comprehend, and in so doing, we vaguely acknowledge the God-ness, the creative force within ourselves… (Greater is he that is within U than he that is in the world. (The world meaning, outside of U.)
(March 30, 2010)

Misery loves company, and hurt people hurt people. If folks fail to take the time needed to heal, they will always repeat the cycle of pain. I have found love means different things to different folks, so we must find our definition of love, and apply it as we await the arrival of that mate, whom shares the same definition of love as ourselves.

Love at first, second or third sight is possible.
For U determine the love u will give...
U determine the barriers or limitations U will set.
We don't love because we think others will love us,
We love because we so desire to do so,
Despite whether we are loved in return.
Love at first sight simply means I choose to love this person despite their willingness or lack thereof to love me back...
I will love without seeking a return...
I Love u because I can.
