The musical stage play Timbuktu, was the first live performance I ever paid for, staring the lovely Ms. Eartha Kitt. Though we never met, she was truly and inspiration to me. She will be missed.

I was born a poet you see
From conception poetry flowed through me
My poetry is hereditary it passed from Momma to me
And from me to my son who speaks fluent poetry.
Poetry is our legacy
So when it comes to poetry you see,
I don’t become… I be..

'Twas The Day Before Christmas ... In The News
‘Twas the day before Christmas, after raining all night
Not a snow flake anywhere, but plenty of ice;
Topping the news was economic gloom
Home prices plunging, hardship still looms,
Lay-offs expected in upper Midwest,
The effects of recession reek havoc and stress,
Unemployment at a twenty-six year high,
Octobers stock market left budgets tight,
With hopes that black Friday would make Christmas bright.
Foreclosures on the left, unemployment on the right
While families wonder
The forecast for the year ahead
Homeless shelters added extra beds
Patience’s is a virtue, but even virtue is tried.
Out on the horizon what do I see, a new administration making promises of relief.
Will help come quick enough, or will the nation continue to bleed,
Billions of dollars earmarked for relief
3 million new jobs in the proposed reprieve.
Away to the grocers for a last minute dash
Debt or credit?
No, just cash.
Retailers were hoping shoppers would splurge,
With little
to no
Christmas returns.
Then what to my wonder did my eyes see
Seniors and Disabled
picketing
Medicaid and Medicare
State budget cuts everywhere
Oh sweet souls my poems at it’s end
But with head lines tomorrow another poem begins
Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight.

At Calvary
He spoke with me
His words comforting
But him I would not see
Fear hindered me
Yet, he rescued me
At Calvary
Time before time,
I longed for him
In night dreams, I envisioned him
Mistake, Misfortune, Mere experience
I nearly lost the dream
Yet, he rescued me
At Calvary
Frozen in pass apprehensions
My heart did burn
My soul confirmed
My spirit spoke
With ears to hear
And eyes to see
He rescued me
At Calvary
Here’s the secret
To the message you read
Hallowed the ground,
Sacred the place,
The situation grave,
Life not chance, had orchestrated consequence and circumstance
Paving the way, for these two souls, to dance destinies’ dance.
Yes, he was sent to rescue me
At Calvary
Beholding his face
God I praise
Thank you for unfolding your mystery
Purpose has became clear to me

In My Heart Is Held Your Place
Precious the moment my eyes encountered yours
No photograph nor telephone could reveal this splendor before
For you are a wonder ones heart must encounter
A wonder to be adored.
Your spirit humbles the soul it meets
Nothing prepared me for this soulful treat
Cold and drizzly that February day
Yet in my soul it was April or May
For spring had sprung in my soul that day
Engraved were the letters of your name.
Shivering and cold, my face wore a grin
Expressing the warmth coming from within
You rescued me from that burial place
In more than just one way
My heart burst open, to hope again,
Believing what I pray
Who knew a solemn man would make me feel this way

We are taught in childhood, not to question, our parents, our elders, and those deemed to have religious authority over us... We are not to lean to our own understandings, and if we find ourselves of another opinion, we are told it is the devil. Therefore withstanding our failure, our unwillingness, our fear to question, that which is questionable, we adhere to a belief passed down but never scrutinize by those we looked to for guidance. We pledge servitude to a belief we ourselves struggle to comprehend, and in so doing, we vaguely acknowledge the God-ness, the creative force within ourselves… (Greater is he that is within U than he that is in the world.
