ALOHA…

Thirty days ago, I did not fully understand Facebook, and it’s phenomena, yet in these last 30 days, I have found classmates, school associates, friends, family members, folks from various places I’ve lived, and various churches I’ve attended. It’s been quite an experience. I logged in one morning, to learn a family member had passed just two hours prior to my log-in.
Today I checked my email, to find a note from another internet radio host. The note was titled “Is Facebook ruining relationships”. I though, “for sure this is a joke”, however, after speaking with my youngest son, I learn these things are reality…
“It’s just Facebook”, I said. My son assured me the allegations are true…
Folks are ending relationships, based on whom one befriends on Facebook.
Once explained, I began to understand why there were those who choose not to accept my invites, and others whom had, but later dropped me.
Wow I thought, folks really take this stuff seriously. I had no clue the reach and magnitude of Facebook… Whoever thought hello would mean good-bye. Perhaps we should all say, ALOHA…
Aloha: used as a greeting or to bid farewell

My Friends Now Distant Strangers

An early morning journey lead me down a winding road,
of memories and laughs thirty years old.
I spent the hours meandering amusingly through posted photos,
of folks and faces,
of classmates, friends and strangers,
formally of Gateway Christian, Ashland, Turner Middle, and Beaumont High School.
Each face presents me with a challenge,
drunk with curiosity, I ask,
“Where Are They Now?”
Has life treated my friends, now distant strangers, with kind and gentle hands?
Have they managed to stand firm with faith, while enduring the winds of time?
How did they meet, those friends and foes of life?
Are they just as genuine now, as then?
What wisdom’s has life bestowed?
What lessons contributed to their inner mans growth?
What roads have they traveled, and what roads are they yet on?
My curiosity challenges me to forge on.
Perhaps they’re just as curious to know what has become of me.
In time, perhaps I’ll see.

Homelessness: Whatever You Do Unto The Lest Of These, You Do Unto ME"!

The phone woke me from my good nights sleep,
I rose to open my window shade, as I do each day.
I saw a man eating from the dumpster, and felt compelled to meet him.
I ran about to dress myself, and find something quick to feed him.
As I returned to the window, the gentleman was gone.
These words came to me and now I pass them on…
"Whatever you do unto the least of these, you do unto me."

Mike Smith America, not to be mean but we are the only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, and mentally ill without treatment. Yet, we have a benefit for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations. 99% of people won't have the guts to copy and repost this !! What about OUR country and OUR people?

R.I. P Willie Frank Middlebrook
It was just two days ago Willie Frank dwelt in my thoughts.
When I started my Internet radio show, just last year Willie Frank was there to lend me his advice and experience..... I recall one conversation were Willie Frank read me a few poems he’d created.
Willie Frank was also working on his memoirs, he read me the first chapter, it was stocked with memories & adventures of Papa Wash, (my grandmothers grandfather) and the challenges of growing up in rural Mississippi in the 50's. I was eagerly awaiting the completion of Willie Frank's book...
I, myself, have so many memories, so many moments of encouragement, so many inspirations, born from the words of Willie Frank….
Willie Frank will be greatly missed…

Keeping Haiti In Prayer
LISANDRO SUERO/ AFP/GETTY IMAGES
Unfortunately, between Dora, Elmo's world, the 2ooth view of Kung Fu Panda, and Ice Age 1 & 2, I find myself at a loss for breaking news and events. It wasn't until a quarter to mid-night Central Standard Time, while scrolling through FaceBook, I learned of the damage reeked upon Haiti.
Tuning to CNN ireport, and breaking news, I was able to see the alarming images, and understand the online request for prayer.
My heart goes out to those directly affected by the devastation of this earthquake. I join in pray with those families and friends who are seeking any news or information concerning their loved ones. I pray for those yet in harm's way, and I pray for those working to rescue and service all survivors. May God strengthen All.
Amen

Scouring Through FACEBOOK

I never considered myself as one having an addictive behavior, however, in the last 5 days,
I have found myself scouring through FACEBOOK.com like an addict needing a fix.
I’ve grown found of the many quotes, questions, and nuggets of advice…
The photo’s of friends, family and even strangers, are quite intriguing.
I log on several times a day, and stay long after reasonable folks have fallen asleep…
Is there a 12 step for me?

When I Fall
"When I fall, whether I be friend or foe, stretch forth, help me, dust me off, and send me on my way in love."
Yes, Love... The action that surpasses all understanding... The force, that creates forgiveness, in the mist of derision.
The virtue, that gives all fallen souls the ability to journey on... and to the sender (the forgiver who's been wronged) the ability to heal, and also grow on.

“If you like it then you should'a put a ring on it”… uhmmm…

A: A ring in a relationship, once symbolized eternal love and dedication. An eternal bond which included a life long commitment... a never ending union for which each person could be spiritually, physically and emotional naked and unashamed.
Now days, the ring usually outlast the relationship; And the wedding, (that event for which rings are exchanged, or received), is merely pomp and circumstance…
Unfortunately the ring does not bond, or cement, it's merely and outward token of the love supposedly shared. So why do men have to put a ring on it?, because our society as a collective has accepted it as so....
“If you like it then you should'a put a ring on it”… uhmmm…

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010
May this new year awaken you to all the promises life has stored solely for you.
May you take advantage of each and every possibility as it is introduced.
May all your actions be performed with love.
May you receive all you give 100 fold.
May this year, be a year of unfolding revelation.
With each new day find at least 3 things to be grateful for, find 2 people to show kindness to, even if all the kindness you can offer is a smile, and last but not least, find 1 person to tell, "I Love U", even if it's U.
My Thought for the Day Copyright © 2010

Sometimes we stumble;
Sometimes faith is betrayed;
Sometimes the mistakes we make
are the stones it takes, to build a pathway to the person we will be. Remember we are ever becoming.

Wisdom is the prerequisite of perfecting love,
Truth is the prerequisite of revealed wisdom,
If there is no truth, there is no perfecting love.
Seek truth, wisdom and love will follow.

Many of us read to locate, take note of, or memorize, that which has been taught unto us. Some of us study to gather information of that which is written, and has been taught unto us, with no intention of questioning its validity.
Others of us locate, take note of, memorize, gather information and are able to rightly divide the written and spoken word, which has been taught unto us, and there confirming or denying its validity. Wisdom is seeking beyond what is taught or understood, to affirm truth.
(March 29, 2010)
We are taught in childhood, not to question, our parents, our elders, and those deemed to have religious authority over us... We are not to lean to our own understandings, and if we find ourselves of another opinion, we are told it is the devil. Therefore withstanding our failure, our unwillingness, our fear to question, that which is questionable, we adhere to a belief passed down but never scrutinize by those we looked to for guidance. We pledge servitude to a belief we ourselves struggle to comprehend, and in so doing, we vaguely acknowledge the God-ness, the creative force within ourselves… (Greater is he that is within U than he that is in the world. (The world meaning, outside of U.)

Misery loves company, and hurt people hurt people. If folks fail to take the time needed to heal, they will always repeat the cycle of pain. I have found love means different things to different folks, so we must find our definition of love, and apply it as we await the arrival of that mate, whom shares the same definition of love as ourselves.

Love at first, second or third sight is possible.
For U determine the love u will give...
U determine the barriers or limitations U will set.
We don't love because we think others will love us,
We love because we so desire to do so,
Despite whether we are loved in return.
Love at first sight simply means I choose to love this person despite their willingness or lack thereof to love me back...
I will love without seeking a return...
